Cadettes Good Sportsmanship Badge and Chess Patch
"In this workshop, girls will learn that chess requires good judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making as they play and celebrate wins and losses, which help build self-confidence. They will also be introduced to the fundamentals of chess including the names of the pieces, how each piece moves, what each piece is worth and basic tactics, while we discuss how good sportsmanship fosters teamwork, respect, character building, fair play, enjoyment and a healthy reputation.
By embracing the principles of good sportsmanship, these girls not only become stronger chess players but also develop character traits that benefit them in every area of life. This workshop will sharpen their chess skills, enhance their strategies, build their self-confidence and support a reputation of integrity and respect for the game.
Girls will earn their Cadette Good Sportsmanship badge, which they can purchase from the Girl Scout Shop, and they will also receive a chess patch with a queen charm, which will be mailed to their home. No prior chess experience is required, and no physical chessboard is needed because all activities will be conducted using a virtual chessboard.
