Making Games for Brownies Badge and Chess Patch
In the Brownies Making Games Badge and Chess Patch program girls will learn about the history of chess including its origins how old the game is and the medieval histories of the pieces through storytelling After they learn about the history girls will use their imaginations to re-write the history of the pieces promoting equality and non-discrimination by envisioning roles in which soldiers can attain status without bias They will also learn the movements names and values of the pieces and how to read the chessboard Chess is an incredible way to teach critical thinking and life skills. No prior chess experience is needed, and no chessboards are required since activities will be conducted using a virtual chessboard. At the end of this chess journey, each girl will earn her Brownies Making Games badge — which can be purchased from the Girl Scout Shop — and a chess patch with a knight charm, which will be mailed to her home. Most importantly, she will feel empowered with a greater understanding of this ancient game.
