Like mechanical engineering, chess teaches critical thinking, problem solving, and strategic planning. Join us for a two-hour program in which girls are introduced to the fundamentals of chess, including each piece’s names, movements, and values. They will also learn how to think like an engineer by building their own spinner to determine who plays as Black and who plays as White. Chess offers a powerful way to develop essential life skills and resilience. No prior chess experience is required, and no physical chessboard is needed since all activities are conducted using a virtual chessboard. Girls will earn their Mechanical Engineering: Board Games for Daisies Badge, which can be purchased from the Girl Scout Shop, and a chess patch with a pawn charm, which will be mailed to their home.
