Coding Badge 2 & 3 for Cadettes

In the Digital Game Design and App Development badge class for Cadettes, girls will step into coding as a tool for creation, expression, and impact. This 2 hour workshop invites them to move beyond simply using technology and begin understanding how it is built, shaped, and brought to life.

The session begins with video game design, where participants explore how ideas are translated into interactive experiences. They will design characters, think through challenges and gameplay, and begin working with foundational coding concepts such as arrays and JavaScript. As they build their own game scenario, they will also learn how images and elements are stored and displayed, giving them a clearer picture of how games function behind the scenes.

From there, the focus shifts to app development, where girls explore how technology can support real-life needs. They will look at how apps collect and use data, and how that information can help people make informed decisions and build positive habits. Using this understanding, participants will design a simple prototype for a habit tracking app, connecting their ideas to practical, everyday use.

Throughout the class, there is a strong emphasis on empowerment. Girls are encouraged to think independently, test ideas, and recognise that their creativity has value in technical spaces. They are not just following steps; they are learning how to approach problems, make decisions, and bring concepts to life through code.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have a clearer understanding of both game and app development, along with the confidence to see themselves as creators who can use technology to build, solve, and innovate.
