STEM Career Exploration Badge for Daisies and Brownies

In the Daisies and Brownies STEM Career Exploration Badge, students will take their first peek into the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) by exploring what it is, how it shows up in everyday life, and why STEM can be a space full of exciting opportunities. Through storytelling and interactive conversations, the teacher will share her career journey, why she chose her path, how she got there, and what she envisions for the future, helping girls see real-life possibilities.

A focal part of the class will be examining career stereotypes: Daisies and Brownies will participate in fun activities and group discussions that unpack why certain jobs are often labelled as “for men,” or “for women,”. They’ll reflect on how these labels shape what people believe they can do, and how those beliefs might limit dreams.

Alongside this, we’ll also introduce the concept of confidence: what it really means, why believing in yourself matters, and simple ways girls can start building confidence — especially when they challenge societal expectations or try something new. Building self-belief helps them envision that they belong in any role, regardless of old stereotypes.

By the end of class, Daisies will:

Have a basic understanding of STEM and how it connects to their lives

Recognise common career stereotypes and talk about why they exist

Reflect on how stereotypes might affect people’s ideas about who belongs in certain jobs

Begin to understand confidence — and why believing in themselves can support them in exploring any career

Feel encouraged and empowered to imagine doing a variety of jobs, including ones that aren’t “traditionally” for girls
